PRESERVATION

REUNION OF STEAM - The Fall and Rise of British Steam

A tribute to the last days of BR steam in the North West and the principal 25th anniversary event. Highlights include previously unseen archive footage of BR steam and early preservation, the ‘Fifteen Guinea Special’ in 1968 and the ‘Fifteen Guinea Rerun’ in 1993. The rise of the East Lancashire Railway is covered along with the 25th anniversary gala held at the railway to mark 25 'steamless' years on BR. Remarkable shed scenes at Bury include 'LMR' and 'SR' steam ups. A motive power feast includes Bahamas, Kolhapur, an 8F and Black 5, Ivatt 46441 and an S&D 2-8-0 representing LMS influence, Canadian Pacific and an S15 from the Southern, Burton Agnes Hall, pannier tank L99 and a pair of 2-8-0s representing the GWR, the Middleton Railway's infamous Y1 'potting shed' from the LNER, and a BR Standard class 4 mogul and 9F Black Prince. Doubleheaders include two versions of the ‘Pines Express’, a brace of Jubilees and GWR superpower with the two 2-8-0s! The gala came to a close in style after a Rose Grove staff reunion one of the sheds most famous daily workings was recreated - Copy Pit banker, 8F 48278 assists a diesel in style.
